Big Changes Ahead for Payments in Australia & New Zealand

On July 15, the Reserve Bank of Australia published a consultation paper proposing several key changes to the card payments system, including the removal of surcharges on certain card types, a reduction in interchange fee caps for domestic transactions, and the introduction of new caps on foreign card transactions.

Later this month, the New Zealand Commerce Commission is expected to release its final rulemaking, which could have significant implications for interchange fee caps and the broader card payments landscape in the country.

To help the industry prepare, CMSPI and the Merchant Risk Council (MRC) are co-hosting a series of expert-led panels featuring representatives from both regulatory bodies. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from the source, unpack the consultation outcomes, and get your questions answered.

Join us for an afternoon of insights, networking, and meaningful conversations around these critical shifts in the payments landscape.
